17th November, 2008. 10:02 am. Potty training is coming
Serafina has switched to pull-up this week because she ran out of her box of diapers. I hoping the pull-ups last until Friday when Juliet has no school, so I can start official potty training that day. Juliet has a full week of school off next week too, so that will help with the training.

16th November, 2008. 7:40 pm. Nutcracker rehearsal and knitting oh no.
Juliet had another rehearsal for the nutcracker this morning. I think it was exciting because they had the men who dance the roles of the nutcracker and the big mice there with the girls. The Christmas dolls (girls same age as Juliet) come out and then as the teeny tiny mice scuttle dance around the nutcracker, the big mice frighten the Christmas dolls and lift them up above their heads for a bit, rattle them around and then chase the dolls off stage. The mice and nutcracker put on their masks too, so the girls would be used to them instead of put off by them. Juliet thought it was great watching the Christmas Doll girls do their part. The last rehearsal with all the casts of teeny tiny mice is next Saturday afternoon, then all rehearsals after that are with just the individual casts. Juliet has one spacing rehearsal in the theater, and then her dress rehearsal will be before her first performance.
Serafina actually sang the song the kids were supposed to sing in church today! Usually she just stands there oblivious to what's going on, but this was kind of cool except that there was a tall kid standing in front of her for most of the song.
Speaking of Serafina, she learned tonight via mommy crying from frustration that she should not pull out the knitting needle from a knitting project. Remember that baby blanket I started over? Well, I got about six inches knit before setting it down again which took oodles of time to get that far, and it's all got to be started over because the stitches dropped and can't be fixed with me of little patience. If I ever get that wonderful blanket finished, it will be a miracle.

16th November, 2008. 11:05 am. A letter from my friend Jamie that I'd like people to read.
Dear Family and Friends,
I know that in many cases, I'm preaching to the converted, but as my friends and family, I have a big favor to ask of you.
We are currently at the start of our generation's most important civil rights battle. And we cannot win it without the support of our friends and families. And we cannot win it without some real dialogue happening. Yesterday, Benjamin Chavis, the organizer of the Million Man March, announced his support of us, stating clearly that this is a battle for civil rights.
I know you all know someone who does not support same-sex marriage. As a favor to me and to anyone else you might know who is fighting this fight, I beg of you to start a dialogue with someone who you know disagrees with you. Keep the dialogue civil and let them know why you believe in equality.
Many have a problem seeing marriage as something other than a religious institution, we are fighting for civil marriages. We are only wanting the exact same legal rights that everyone else has. We are not trying to force our ways into churches and synagogues and temples, we merely want the protections offered us by our government.
As Thomas Jefferson declared the separation between church and state in the US Constitution, we cannot let a religion define a word in our laws. "Marriage can only be defined as being between a man and a woman," has been written in more than 30 state constitutions. While some argue that civil unions and domestic partnerships offer the same rights as marriage, this is not true in 28 of the 30 states currently offering those options. Additionally, there are 1049 Federal marriage rights that are still not afforded to those in these "alternative" forms of unions.
There is bigotry, fear and hatred supporting the fight against us and it comes at us in ways we never thought possible. Many people feel the need to preface their statements with "My sister is gay," or "I love gay people, but..." - this is no longer acceptable. You can not claim to be my friend while voting and funding to strip away my civil rights. Others feel they can stop the conversation dead in it's tracks by quoting the Bible. This is also no longer acceptable. You can not use your religious texts as a shield. using them to persecute any minority is wrong. It is not religious freedom, it is bigotry. This is your opportunity to stand on the right side of equality. The arc of history bends towards justice, and it will bend towards us in the end.
In 1967, our President Elect's parents could have been arrested in 16 states for being married, as they were of different races. Many of you took part in the fights which opened the doors for African-Americans in the US. Now I ask that you fight for me. This is not going to happen tomorrow and the call to action will be constant until we are indeed all equal. I'm asking for your service in responding to the hatred, bigotry and fear which is stopping us from achieving full equality. We have some minds to change and some eyes to open. And with your help, we will do just that.
Thank you for joining the fight.
Much Love, Jamie

13th November, 2008. 2:01 pm. 34w2d midwife appointment and general update
Today we met the new midwife in the practice. Her name is Kay and she's been there almost a month now. Mommy thinks she is really nice.
Mommy brought her birthplan today, and Kay said it was really good/sounded exactly like she'd prefer a birth to be. Yay. Go Mommy!
Mommy's weight was up a bit more than usual...but that could be either because of the difference office scale, or the fact that mommy was wearing warmer clothes (or possibly even retaining extra water!) She's up to a 20 pound gain overall. BP was a little higher than usual - possibly due to the YUCKY traffic on the way which made her late for the appt - 124/75. The big ole belly measured 36cm, and my heartrate was in the 140s (once Kay FOUND me). Again, she thinks I'm pointing head down.
We go back just before Thanksgiving for the 36w appointment, and will see the doctor that time. Dr Oneil will probably do a pelvic check to check if there's any dilation, and to see if she can tell that I'm head down for certain.
Mommy is getting excited, because she also dropped off her forms with the office for getting out of work at 36w. That's less than 2 weeks of work left.
Of course, there is still no word on mommy's replacement - but at this point, THAT isn't mommy's problem - they've known for AGES that this time was coming!
Mommy's preparing for having some maternity portraits done on Nov 23rd. She has a few ideas, and will post photos that she loves.
Oh, and if you haven't guessed it, mommy is officially NOT doing Christmas Cards this year. She says that it is because she wants to be certain to include ME in the card, so announcemnets/cards will be sent LATE. But don't worry - she's got a special plan...it will be worth the wait.
We don't have anything exciting planned for Thanksgiving this year - other than this will be Daddy's first cooking the meal. Mommy will supervise.
Abby doesn't understand why mommy cannot carry her anymore. She's been especially clingy and needy for the past few weeks, probably because she feels the changes that are coming.
Abby came up with a name for me last weekend. She even gave me a middle name. But mommy and daddy aren't convinced yet that THAT is the *right* name for me. Mommy likes to *SEE* her girls before naming us. so, just hang tight. You'll know it before too long.
Oh, and Aunt Traci sent me a HUGE box of baby clothes which arrived yesterday. Mommy had fun going thru the box, and Abby had fun trying on the teeny baby shoes (that no way possible were going on her feet!) and also she absconded several of my outfits, claiming them as her own. Good luck with that big sis!
Did mommy mention before that she's back to going to Yoga class? We started a few weeks ago. I like it. Especially the last resting exercise. That's when I practice my own yoga poses, and see how I can contort mommy's belly.
Daddy mentioned last night that mommy is definitely looking larger this time around. And mommy feels it. She cannot wear the pants that she wore the night she went into labor with Abby, and had to go buy more pants to wear for the final few weeks. But at least she's comfortable now!
I keep mommy up all night long now. She's got to get into practice for when I'm born!
Oh, and we've made arrangements for Abby's childcare when I decide it's time to come out! Gwen (Abby's Daycare provider) has agreed to help us out, and my grandparents are planning on getting here on Dec 20th, should I not be here already by then. Abby's Daycare is in session until Christmas Eve.
So, that's what's going on with me.

13th November, 2008. 6:05 am. Homer is going to work
He thinks he might have just enough to get there. It's worth the risk so he doesn't lose a day's pay.
